If it were me, I would choose MacOS 8.1 in a fight (or lawsuit) over the Poloroid PhotoPad. Is that what your title really is? Poloroid versus Mac?

Read the manual. Install the software. Reboot. Shutdown. Plug the device into a serial port. Turn on the Mac. Check your AppleTalk settings and make any necessary corrections. Yer done.

"Court will not recgonize Poloroid!"  He He...      I get the error that it can not open the port!
However I am going to go by your comments to the 'letter', in the order you have stated to try again. (for the 4th time)  OK?
I will be back!  Thanks, AG

Is it an appletalk or non-appletalk device?

Dear Hub, It says Apple Talk should be OFF!...Poloroid said "Sound Manager should be OFF in Extentions.  The AC cord (adapter) is OK, it warms when pluged in.  The error I get when I Acquire  PhotoPad as the directions say says "Can not open port."
The Application is permantly on the Modem port setting, which I tried also.  Macintosch says not to plug into the external modem port if you have an internal modem.  I am going to approach the Microspot USA, Inc. support now.  They made the PhotoFix software that comes with the PhotoPad unit and it's own scanner driver software.  Thanks, Aunt Granny

Here is some brian damage for you. If the Appletalk control panel is set to use the Printer Port, plug your device into the Modem port. If the Appletalk control panel is set to use the Modem Port, plug your device into the Printer port. The Appletalk control panel is trying to define the port that AppleTalk devices will use. Non-AppleTalk devices, therefore, should use the other port. Kinda odd, don't ya think?

Finally got to talk on the phone to a big wig at poloroid...And he said the modem in the performa is designed to reflect using the modem port...therefore the poloroid scanner software cannot recgonize the actual port as available!  That is basically what he said, do you get it??  I think I do..I now have a Microtec Scannmaker E3 Plus...Works on the SCSI port and is WONDERFULLLL!!  Thanks for your input...love EE!

ps.  He said to keep it and by the end of the year there will be a solution!!!  I do believe that as fast as the web is growing...  Regards,  Aunt Granny
