i need help! i want to use the cdrom alone can i or not and i tried to download four different drivers and they all are wrong one thats says 2xcd is for a pcmcia now what?
xman
What do you mean when you say you want to use the cdrom alone?
You MUST have a Panasonic interface to control it.(proprietary)
The correct interface is buit-in on the PB soundcard.
Cdrom controller cards exist with the Panasonic interface.  Either alone, or in combination with others.(Sony, Mitsumi, etc.)
Although the 40-pin data cable used with this drive is the same as that used for IDE, you cannot operate this drive on an IDE port.

Are you telling me that now that i've used this cd-rom for the last time?lol
I put in a new 8xcdrom i had laying around and now the panasonic is collecting dust....oh well i tried to use it in another computer to no avail.Any suggestions instead of chucking it?
xman
Just get another controller card for it!  If you can find one, they're not expensive.
Or, you could leave it in the system along with the new one. (If you have another drive bay for it)

But it has to be a panasonic type controller card? or will any do
xman
It has to be a Panasonic-type of interface.  The card can be manufactured by anyone.
I've seen many brands of controller cards with three interfaces. (Sony, Mitsumi, Panasonic)

exactly which driver works with that one as i tried everyone of them and none worked.Thats was with the panasonic's interface.all the ones listed just didn't work

You should use the one called "56xdos.exe", listed for the CR-563.
This is the real-mode driver used by Dos to recognize the CDROM.
Proper syntax in the config.sys file is important to set it up.
Let me know if you need help to set it up.
