I keep getting SUWIN caused gen protection fault in module
GDI.exe when i install OS2R; i have tried 15 times to install and have yet to get win 95
fully installed; the closest was temporarily being in safe mode; after i tried to restart
from safe mode it kept locking up; i then reformatted and tried to reinstall; and again the SUWIN problems;

system: cyrix 233, 64 mb ram, 4.3 GB western digital, OS2R

any advice greatly appreciated thanks

SUWIN errors generally occur due to a hardware problem - quite often in the Memory subsytem. When I worked for a PC repair company, the way we fixed them (works 90%) of the time is to go into the CMOS Setup and slow down memory accesses. Depending on your make of BIOS, it will be under something like CHIPSET SETTINGS.

Given that you're running a Cyrix 233 (clocked as 83 x 2), your memory bus may be going too fast for the RAM to handle. This is a problem with all Cyrix chips clocked at 75 and above.

Slow the memory timings down (set to 4-x-x-x and 70ns), try turning other speed enhancing features off in that section and reinstalling. Once installed, you can try turning them back on one by one until you get reliable operation. Believe it or not, slowing these timings will make virtually no difference to the performance of your machine, as the bus is faster than the Intel standard anyway.
