from text to access to web

i have started learning visual basic  a week ago but i am forced into a situation where i am expected to pull a well formatted text file in the form of a table where some columns could be accessed by the viewers who could make changes. these changes are updated in our database. the final product should be user friendly so they asked me to pull the data on to the web.
now what i plan to do is pull the text file into access using vb ado and make queries, forms etc. in access database and
later pull these forms using front page for editing and viewing.
i need some help from you in writing proper code in vb.
if there is some other suggestion. please reply. i would appreciate it.

You do not need to wrtie VB code to import text file into Access, it can be easily done using access text import wizards

dear spiridonov,
i have tried the text import wizards and they are carrying so many errors, and sometimes it say that there are more than 65000 characters in a line and i have checked and seen that there are delimiters afetr each column and each line.
but if i were to successfully draw data using the TIW then do i think an update can be done on it every two hours and there are changes both in the access tables and the text file also.
hope i was clear enough about that.
i appreciate your response though.
thanks a lot

Please reply to this answer so I can understand your problem correctly and help you some more.

You want to pull a large text file, which has editable content, and then display it on the internet?

My idea is to:
Write two separate VB programs. One will allow users to access the text, update and edit it.

The other is a VB CGI program that allows you to format the text for the WWW. Separately.

reply so I can help you further...

Dear Nniol,
the problem is basically this, i am supposed to pull a text file that is well formatted with delimiters and is in the form of a table. this is supposed to be put in a table form say an access table.once the table is made four to five columns of this 11 column table have  to be made avialable for some people to edit/add new data and this has to be updated. now since access is not all that user friendly for somebody who doesn't know access i am  supposed to put this access table, or forms or reports on the web such that they could access any of these and make thier changes and the table has to be updated so that somebody else using one of these five columns for editing knows that some changes have been made.
now i am able to pull the table(link) from the text to access but in some columns i am having  "#num" appearing in place of date and so i was wondering why.
now once i get to figure out the problem i should check how i could put the created forms and queries on to the web and update them. i however have frontpage.
if you have not understood my problem properly please let me know and if you have any code to get this work done please send me a copy because i'll need to complete this project even before i complete my access and VB course.
thanks a lot

Chandra,

Are you sure you need to put it on the internet to be read and updated by the users? If you do and the course hasn't ataught you about CGI or ASPs then they are almost asking the impossible.

If you do not need web access, then write VB code, using the Data control, SQL, Recordsets and Databases. To create an administrastion program for managing and editing the data.

If you have to put it on the web, tell me, and I will try to help, but it would be better if I could speak to you properly. To hel pyou some more. If you need to know about CGI then look at:

http://hoohoo.ncsa.umich.edu

I think it contains info about CGI, how it works etc.

If you still want HELP!!!!

Then I will help you create CGI with VB.

Dear Nniol,
why don't you send me your e-mail address or phone number so that i could talk to you directly.
infact i think i have been able to break the ice using access and linking tables and using some notes from http://www.audities.com/iisadmin/htmldocs/08_iis.htm
infact my friend is easily pulling access stuff on to the web using some .idc and .htx files and he was explaining things to me and i was just working on it right now.
but it was extremely nice on your part to show your willingness to help me.
i also apprecite the keepers of this Experts Exchange site and i have already told several of  my friends of its benefits.
now since we have made friends, i have a question.
i was planning on taking classes on Oracle, develepor 2000 because i am in oklahoma city right now and if i go back to school in stillwater i am not sure if i will be able to have enough time.
in fact i know i already am spending a lot of time on my project, access, VB etc. Infact my friend was insisting me to join this course and i was not sure what to do. so?
anyway please send me your e-mail address.
