Sound card detection

How can I detect in a JAVA applet the presence/absence of a sound card on
the client's computer ? .
If this detection is possible, how can I know the results in my HTML script ?

I don't know for sure but as Sound Cards are more or less PC specific and Java isn't then it is unlikely that you will be able to do what you want.
It may even contravene that Java Security model to allow it to interrogate your hardware.

Thank you but really I would like know if users computer can play. Actually there is an
error message on user's screen if it hasn't a sound card. Is it possible to capture this message, hide it and make an appropriate action ?
