I am thinking of purchasing a computer but not sure whats a good choice, what is the story with Compaq?
Any suggestions on a purchase?

Actually, I would go for Dell if I were you.  They have a very good tech support people and you can always custom config the system.  Prices wise, it's very compeitive too.  Compaq is famous for using cheap taiwanese stuffs.

Dell is a safe bet, but their machines tend to be best for office situations where reliability is more important than speed. If you're after a machine for doing work on, Dell is a fine choice, but if you're after a really powerful games machine, there are better places to go.
