Howdy..

I was playing with the Active Form Example in Delphi 3's directory, Which, using the EmpServer Server Program, I got to work on my machine.  However, on another machine in the office, the browser hits the page which asks if the user wishes to install the ActiveX Control.  After clicking Yes, I get a DAX Error that says 'CLASS NOT REGISTERED'.

Near as I can tell its talking about the GUID of the ActiveX Control (?) which of course isnt registered on his machine.  How does one get it registered on a "new" machine??

Hi Whytboy,

You need to have DBCLIENT.DLL on the client, and it needs to be registered.

And another message form TI-Borland :

DBCLIENT.DLL
Question:
What is the role of DBClient.DLL?
Answer:
DBCLIENT.DLL contains the low-level implementation of
TClientDataSet.  It manages all of the data and implements
functionality like filters, sorting, etc.  The relationship
between TClientDataSet and DBCLIENT.DLL is very similar to the
one between TTable and the BDE.  The functionality is surfaced
through two COM interfaces (DSBase & DSCursor) and requires OLE
registration.  If DBCLIENT.DLL is placed in any directory on the
path or in the EXE directory on the client machine, it will
automatically be registered by the VCL code in TClientDataSet.
Otherwise it must be registered using REGSVR32.EXE or TREGSVR.EXE.

Is there a way to distribute that file along with the OCX? and have them both register automatically?

Whytboy,

If DBCLIENT.DLL is placed in any directory on the path or in the EXE directory on the client machine, it will automatically be registered by the VCL code in TClientDataSet.

But you can do it all in your installation with this freeware installer : http://www.connect.net/jordanr/isinfo.htm

Well, another interesting point.  I went to another machine and put the DBClient.dll file in his Windows System directory, and hit my page again.... Same error.

I'm gonna try and see if registering it manually helps any.. but .. keep in mind, that I cant register anything manually over the Internet!

Isnt that what I'm saying??  I shouldn't have to "REGISTER" anything.  I mean, its over the internet, I cant get to the machines that will hit this page, so NO, I can't register anything.  I figured this would happen automatically when they got the Control.  I just wanna know how to get the control (and the DBClient DLL) to their machine.  The browser should register it.
