need code for IRR (internal rate of return)

this question already exists, but the answer is a webpage that is unreachable.  a better answer would have been to copy the code from that webpage into the answer box.

I need code for the IRR function.  VB has an IRR function, but it is not robust and fails if it cannot find an answer in a certain number of iterations (20.)
