How widespread is VBScript?

I'm learning VBScript. Is it used on most servers now or should I just learn JavaScript instead.
thanks

You have to remember that there is client side-script and server-side script.

Client side script is part of the HTML-code that is send to the browser, and it is executed by the browser. Any HTML-page can have client side script in it, it demands nothing special from the server. Restrictions are at the side of browsers. Most browsers support some sort of Javascript, but you should be aware that there are many differences between browsers.

IE3 & IE4 support VBscript, and there's a plugin for Netscape to make it support VBscript.

Server side script is excuted on the server and NOT send to the browser. The restrictions here are only for the server. IIS servers supports VBscript, as ASP (Active Server Pages). Other servers (for example Netscape servers, but also IIS servers) support server side javascript.

So when it comes to client side scripting, javascript is much more supported then VBscript.

For server side scripting, it all depends on what server you use.

I prefer to use VBscript for server side scripting and javascript for client side scripting.

for javascript i use as reference

http://home.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/3.0/handbook/javascript/index.html

It's an old one, but it offers o good overview of Javascript 1.1

For VBScript, I would try the Microsoft site.
