Should I diagnose the following when the system is in operation, meaning all of the following may be used by some applications? And will the applications halt or get stalled when the diagnostic tests are in action?
- Video Grabber
- Serial and Parallel ports
- Network Interface card
- Digital I/O card
- VGA card
- Memory & hard disk

Thanks.

There is an excellent program available from a company called tufftest <http://www.tufftest.com> This is not only a diagnostic program it is a boot disk with it's own O/S. Get the TuffTest Pro. It will test all of the items you want tested plus more. It's cost is also relatively cheap.

So to really answer your question. Don't test them while you have programs running. That may cause a crash or loss of data depending on which program you are going to use.

Thanks for your answer. I've already checked out Tufftest. Do you know of any PC diagnostic tests that are either:
1. API calls?
2. Can be activated in the background from a script file specifying the systems to test?

Well i don't know. The only other thing i can suggest is if you have an ami bios you can get amidiag.exe. It is a dos program that can be modified ( if i remember correctly ) to be run from a script. but don't quote me on that. LOL. hope i have helped.
