I've formatted my HD, worked fine.
I've installed a fresh copy of Win95; worked fine.
Then installed Win98 upgrade.  75% into the upgrade, system halts with "Windows registry error in System.DAT.

Has this happened to anyone else before??

Yes i have. And the only thing i can tell you is to purchase the WIN 98 full version. For some reason installin Win98 upgrade or full version of Win98 over Win98 makes things go nuts. I have seen registry errors like crazy, non detecting of cards, GPF's like mad.... I am not sure what is happening but the full version of Win98 installed on a clean (formatted) HD works very well.

There should be a cheaper way to solve the problem than buying the full version: try to install Win98 without first installing Win95. During installing you will be asked to insert Win95, but I didn't try this myself.
