lost the 256 color on my computer what do i do to get it back

If you are using Windows 95, 98 or NT 4 then you should right click on the background and choose "properties" from the menu that appears.  Now click on the "settings" tab and you will see where you can adjust the color.

When you are done, click "OK".  If you are asked to restart the computer, do so and you will have a 256 color screen again.
