Hi,

I have two PC's connected through TCP/IP running Win95.
I can't seem to connect to a remote Interbase (4.2) server.
Interbase says that it cannot locate the remote host. This is what I have done so far:

-Installed Interbase 4.2 on both machines, and running at startup.
-Made a TCP/IP connection between the two win95 machines. Pinging is successful both ways.
-I entered the TCP/IP adresses with names in the windows hosts file.

Is that all,or do I have to do something else?

Thx, Alex

The thing that is easily forgotten is the entry in
the services file, on both machines:
gds_db           3050/tcp
Then you have to consider several points:
- Local Interbase does not allow remote connections.
- not sure but also try the lmhosts file
- Run Interbase Communication Diagnostics and see if it
  complains

Hi,

Thanks. I indeed forgot to add the line in the services file. (I did in one PC but not in the other. Stupid of me.) How do I grade your answer (which is a comment) now?
