Upgrading Outlook 97 to Outlook 98
I recently ordered the Outlook 98 CD from Microsoft and want to upgrade my Outlook 97. Do I just load the CD and install it "over" Outlook 97 (or what)? What about the data I currently have in Outlook 97? Will I loose it when I install Outlook 98?

u must understand this relationship before u install.
1) what is your setup option for outlook 97.
2) what is the setup option u intend to choose for outlook 98.
for one :
by default outlook 97 is configure for workgroup. therefore u send and receive mail through the microsoft exchange server or something like that. this will effect outlook 98 behaviour if u read on below.
for two:
there is three options to choose for the setup of outlook 98 beside the utilities options. setup will ask which type of mode u want to install?
a) Internet only e-mail. (for internet mail only, must have ISP)
smtp,pop3,imap.
b) Workgroup or Corp. mail (outlook 97 default)
c) no email support (can change to a or b later).
so much for the above. the answer to your question is :-
1) if u continue to use Workgroup or Corp. mail (option b)
u will have no problems upgrading.
2) if u choose Internet Only e-amil.
u must uninstall Microsoft Office 97 because it will affect
outlook 98 and your email. u cannot send or receive
them. u get smtp and pop3. i am a victim of the problem once!
try many ways and only i think this way work best.
so if u want to have a simple life just choose Workgroup or Corp. mail. if u want to change the setup option maybe try exporting out all the info to another email software like outlook express first and then try your luck on whether the outlook 98 setup will update accordingly to your choice for Internet only e-mail. and to find out if the changes work try sending a mail and receiving one on errors means Ok, errors pray hard!
