IP Addresses

I would like to know if there is a way to change the way my isp appears when I visit BBS's and chats that show your location. I do not like the fact that my isp reveals the town and state I live in. ex: 1Cust153.tnt.sarasota.fl.da.uu.net (this is not exact. but close) With out having to change my internet server, or dial up.. how can the isp be changed to NOT reveal the location. Or at least just show the IP address instead? I am using Win 98 with IE and Netscape browsers.
Thank you.

These are the patches for OOBNuke, Winnuke, Jolt, SSPING, IceNuke and TearDrop.
Can Download these fixes at:

Patches for Microsoft Windows 95

Use the following steps to upgrade to Winsock 2.2 and patch the Internet bugs in
Windows 95. Be sure to perform these steps in the order as they appear.

1.Install the MS DUN 1.2 Upgrade (MSDUN12.EXE) and reboot.
2.Install the Winsock 2.2 Upgrade (WS2SETUP.EXE) and reboot.
3.Install the Winsock 2.2 Patch (VIPUP20.EXE) and reboot. This step fixes the IP
nukes such as SSPING and Teardrop.
4.Install the Land patch (VTCPUP20.EXE) and reboot.
5.Rename VNBT.386 to VNBT.BAK or use the VNBT.386 Fix (VNBT.EXE) and
reboot. This step fixes the WinNuke bug.

Patches for Microsoft Windows NT

1.Install Service Pack 3 (NT4SP3_I.EXE)
2.Install the Bonk, Boink and Teardrop2 patch (TEARFIXI.EXE). This patch

ok.. smeebud while complelety wrong, has a good idea to get you protected from being nuked, although completly unnesscary seeing as how win98 has already addressed and patched all of the above issues.

you ip address that is displayed most commonly in IRC type programs such as mIRC when entering and leaving rooms is assgianed to you by you ISP and is unchangable by you on your end.  Call them and ask them if they can just display you DNS instead of you  dialup location.  My guess is no, becuase that's what they told me.  Good Luck to you.

you CANNOT change your giving ip address from your side
and you cannot change how it is displayed.  i asked a local ISP rep about this becuase mine was even worse it was like
modem24.line3.torrington.ct.nai.net
and he said that the local teleco (snet.net) is the one who decides who it's displayed an not them, and that there was no way to change it.  i would ask you ISP the same question, or MAYBE if you want to try and SPOOF you address(not quite a legal opperation) u might be able to accomplish your task

Thank you. I called my ISP and got a lame answer... because the guy simply didn't know the answer. I will drop this isp and try to find one that is a bit more anonymous.  I am trying to understand IP addresses.... found a tracker by netinfo. Am also trying to understand hacking email and my system. (thought it was impossible with win95.. until I saw an article on MSNBC about new hacker program for this) Hopefully Win98 is more secure!!! Is there an expert in this field that can address this with me in email? I am trying to solve problems now concerning hacking and corrutped IE browser.. possibly Active X control sent to hard drive without my knowlege.
