HPDJ855C processed a staple

My HPDJ855C took a Swingline Tot 50 staple. Two sheets of paper were stapled together and passed thru the paper path. Viewed from the top rear of the printer, the staple was located on the front of the paper and on the right side as it passed thru.

We were able to extract the paper and staple intact. But something is now knocked out of adjustment.

When I attempt to print, the [Swivel Print Adjuster?] to the left of the print area rotates to the apparent correct position and the ink cartridges move over it. Everything seems correct at that point. But, when the cartridges start to shift to center to print, they quickly slide all the way across and slam against the far side stop and the lights blink. That's it.

Try removing the cartridges and then insert them again. If this
does not work, you may have to take the printer to a Qualified
Technician or send the printer back to HP.

If you are referring to the ink cartridges, I have already tried that.

You have broken the carriage clutch mechanism by the sounds of it. If the printer is fairly new it should still be covered by the warrantee.
I suggest you get a professional to fix it.

This sounds logical. I'll check with HP directly for confirmation and cost of part and/or repair. Thanks.
