Jug,

Not at all, provided you know a little about the insides of  a computer.  It is equivalent to installing a cdrom drive or a floppy drive.  The external model is not only bulkly, but more expensive.  I bought an Atapi Zip a month ago and installed it within 30 minutes--no problems.  And it transfers data much faster than the parallel one.  The only benefit i can think of with the parallel is that you can move it to another machine easily.
