Journal Options Do Not Contain Office Programs

To automatically record Office97 file actions in the Outlook Journal, I'm supposed to go into TOOLS, OPTIONS, then choose the JOURNAL tab, and then, on the list of ALSO RECORD FILES FROM, check the boxes of those Office97 programs I want to record.  But my list shows ONLY Access97, even though I have the full [professional] Office97 package installed.  How do I get my Outlook Journal Options to see that I do have Word, Excel, etc available to be recorded.

This sounds like a logon profile problem. Are you running on NT 4.0, or running Windows 95 in multi-profile mode? In any case, the solution is to run Office Setup with a special command line parameter of "/y" (without quotes). To do this, follow these steps:

On the Windows Start menu, click Run.

In the Open box, type:

"<disk>:\setup.exe /y" (without the quotation marks)

where "<disk>:\" is the compact disc drive that contains the Office Setup disc.

I got this from a Microsoft Knowledge Base article, # Q179737. You can read the details at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q179/7/37.asp

danyell,

Your fix works like a charm.  With only one problem.  As you imply, the fix works per user profile.  Our system is an NT 4.0 lan.  The users do not have administrative privileges and loading software on our workstations requires those privileges so I had to one-by-one add users to the domain administrators group, do the /y upgrade, and then take them out of the group again.  No big deal, just letting you know.  Anyway.  Thanks.  Points to you.
