I have a LG 8X CD-ROM drive. I understand that its old. Do I need to buy a new one.
I seldom use it. Whenever it is used it for installation of new software or referring to Encarta.
Are there any CD's which are not readable by my CD drive.

Neha,

You should be alright with that speed if you don't plan on playing any cd intense games.  You don't need to buy a new one if all you do is use it once in a while to install apps or access data from encarta.  However, you can get a 24x for about $30 if you shop around.  It is entirely up to you.

You CD should be able to read whatever a standard 24x cd could read.

Neha,

The difference between 24X and 32X are 1200 KBs per second.  All that means is the 32X spins faster and is able to transfer data faster than the 24X.  However, don't expect a big performance boost from a 32X.  If you can afford it, buy a 32X.  If not, you won't be disappointed with a 24X.
