i have an old mac that is reading a start up error {OPENOT}  error 41. if i turn off the extensions the computer still will not start. What can i do to fix this problem?

The MAC is an old performa 550 with a with a 603080 processer

Error 41 is the "cannot open finder" error.  It is very possible that your software has become corrupt, or that you Hard drive is bad.  I would suggest trying to startup from the CD and use the disk utilities to format or look at the disk/software for problems.
