Increase memory:
Highlight the application that you want to give more memory to.
Pull down Get Info (Command i) from the File Menu.
Increase the Prefered Size.
Close the Get Info window.
* note: You cannot increase the size while the application is in use or locked (check box at Get Info window).

Increased speed:
Small applications run faster than large ones. The stand-alone Netscape browser (latest version 4.0.6) runs faster than a browser that includes email, usenet and other features. The PowerPC version will usually run faster than 68k or FAT versions on a PPC machine because of its native PPC code. Using a MacOS with more native PPC code, MacOS 8.1 for example, will also improve speed. Macs also run happier with more physical RAM installed. MacOS version prior to 8.x run faster with Virtual Memory OFF (Memory Control Panel) and MacOS 8.x and greater run faster with a value divisible by 32 (32, 64, 96, 128, etc.) set at Virtual Memory ON. Upgrading your computer to the latest and greatest whizbang model usually increases speed also...:)
