Hi......
     We have a database called "ZIM" (some kinda Order Tracking Database) we'd like to know how to dump the information in this database to
     tab/colon delimited text files.
     We had a look around the file system (SCO) and found some datafiles (zim0001, zim0002 zim0003 etc..) a bit obscure, but then we found text for
     a procedure, It's not SQL, but might give someone a clue as to what the database engine is. There is a directory for Ingres but it is empty, and
     Ingres doesn't appear to be running.

     procedure cTemp()\
     local (lCode, lCount, lVersion)
     find all items where type = 'M' -> sall
     sort by stockcode
     find all where $distinct(stockcode) = stockcode -> sall
     out $setcount
     let lCount = $setcount
     while
         out $Currentmember('sall')
         let lCode = stockcode
         etc....... etc..... etc.........
     endwhile
     endprocedure

     Has anyone got any ideas on What the database is? And more importantly how to dump ALL the data to text files
     so we can migrate to another platform/Database.
     regards

I found this out (from QNX but I think Zim may also be on other platforms)

(begin quote)

ANSWER:Zim is a powerful database management system based on the entity relationship model and on Zim's advanced 4GL. (The latter uses set manipulation, a feature-rich screen painter, and a complete object dictionary.)

Applications are created by assembling components from a rich library of supplied templates. These templates are based on a powerful application framework that provides support for event-driven programming, message passing, common application operation, and so on. This framework permits various components, including C routines and our Programming Language Interface (PLI) to interoperate and be integrated into a single consistent application.

ANSWER:Zim provides a complete solution in a new way, making it faster and more cost effective to develop applications using QNX.

You can dump data to text and import into other products.
get to the command line and use this procedure...

set save
set headings off
set nullvalue '-*-*-'
set output fieldlistwidth off
set output maskfield off
set output virtualfield off
set output format commadelimited
set textdelimiter '\fe'
set out printer
set out terminal
set out printer
list all
set out terminal
set restore
