Reformatting harddisk

If i want to reformat a dell laptop, what do i need to take note? eg boot-disk, any dell software?

what you need is a copy of your operating sytem to start with
and any other software you have on you computer.
you also should make a boot disk before you start.
with the formate and sys comand on it
and any drivers you may need on the system disk ie cd rom drivers etc
also make a copy of your autoexec.bat and config files
and any drivers these files relate to should also be copied to this disk.  and modify the files to point to the drivers on the flopy rather than the hard drive
