Trying to connect a friend's Mac LC with a 2400 baud ProModem24e - I've got MacPPP and MacTCP on there, can get the modem to dial in and establish a connection, but then the connection is immediately dropped.  Not sure if there are any special modem strings I need to put in, etc.  Please help!

Call your internet service provider (isp) and ask if they accept connections from 2400 baud modems. They will, more than likely, say, "No." If not, they should be able to help you configure your machine/modem to work with their stuff.

The minimum hardware requirements for "enjoyable" internet surfing are:
14.4 modem
MacOS 7.5.x (7.5.5 recommended) with Open Transport 1.1.2 and QuickTime 2.5
20+ Megs of Physical RAM (LC's are limited to 10 MB)

Setting up a machine with less than this will cause the user to purchase a better Mac sooner, since the internet experience will not be nearly as much fun due to frequent crashes and/or error messages. If all you want is email and/or irc, the LC is fine. The general rule of thumb is, more RAM equals more fun.
