Connecting Mac LC to Internet

Trying to connect a friend's Mac LC with a 2400 baud ProModem24e - I've got MacPPP and MacTCP on there, can get the modem to dial in and establish a connection, but then the connection is immediately dropped.  Not sure if there are any special modem strings I need to put in, etc.  Please help!

The minimum hardware requirements for "enjoyable" internet surfing are:
14.4 modem
MacOS 7.5.x (7.5.5 recommended) with Open Transport 1.1.2 and QuickTime 2.5
20+ Megs of Physical RAM (LC's are limited to 10 MB)

Setting up a machine with less than this will cause the user to purchase a better Mac sooner, since the internet experience will not be nearly as much fun due to frequent crashes and/or error messages. If all you want is email and/or irc, the LC is fine. The general rule of thumb is, more RAM equals more fun.
