cd installation to 486

what setting do I use on the CD (CS, SLAVE or master) when the harddrive I'm tring to daisy chain off doesn't  have the same setting options??   I've tried several combinations and the system can't find the drive (CD) when I reboot..  tried a seperate drive controller card, same  results.  CD lights up after booting but that's it..

You need to set your hard disk as master and cd-rom as slave then use disk that you got with cd-rom and run setup it will find your drive and setup it, Because you have 486 you bios will not see your cd-rom

I mentioned that the hard drive doesn't have a setting for  master or slave .  I assume the default would be master.  so I did as you stated and it doesn't work.   So is it possible that I can't use the connection off the harddrive??
