in photoshop how can i make gold that look like crinkled/wrinkled gold paper?  I want to use it as a overlay image for text.  if that makes sense;)

Try this way:(in Photoshop 4.0)
1.New file->new layer->using Paint Bucket tool to fill the layer with gold color
2.Filter->Texturizer  choose: Texture:Cavas       scaling:63%      relief:4%
3.Filter->Stylize->Wind choose:   Blast,    from left to right
4.Filter->Distort->Wave choose:     type:sine      wrap arround
5.Filter->Distort->Zigzag choose:   amount:-38   Ridges:5     Style:around center
6.Filter->Render->Lighting effects choose:    Light type:omni      Texture channel:Green   resize the area of light

Now you will get a shining gold paper with brighterpart and darker part.
