could someone give me some info on setting up a scanner in linux? thanks.

I'd suggest going to http://www.mostang.com/sane/

This site is called Scanner Access Now Easy, and it has drivers for a variety of scanners for Linux.  If your scanner isn't listed there, I suspect you are out of luck.  I haven't found any other info on scanners under Linux
