video decompressor

I have an AVI file that i can not play properly. i can hear the sound but i get no picture. when i go into properties of the file then go preview a message comes up saying
"video not available cannot find "vids:mjpg" decompressor"

Try the Motion JPEG (mpjg) codec from http://www.pmatrix.com/Goodies.htm and
see if it works.  Additional information on AVIs and codecs may also be found at
http://zeus.arc.nasa.gov/avi.html.

Microsoft also has an updated Media Player that may or may not have this codec. I
simply can't recall and the web page doesn't say.
