I use www.thecounter.com

You simply add a bit of HTML to your page, and they do the counting for your including keeping stats on whose visiting, what browsers, what search hits etc.

You have a choice of display styles including invisible through the configure option, and it doesn't require any programming.

www.thecounter.com, instructions for setup on their site
