How do I set up video conferencing

I have seem computers that have a mini camera attached that will send sound & images for video conferencing.  I believe it's call telephony.  What kind of software and hardware do I need to setup the video conferencing on my computer?  Also, do I need to pay to use such service?

Color Quickcam is fairly cheap and is packaged with video conferencing software.. should be around $120 per camera.  I'm sure there are companies out there that sell such services (webphone come to mind).  M$ Netmeeting is also capable of video conferencing.
For the best quality (or any quality at all) i would recommend that all computers involved in the video conferencing have at least 128k connection to the net (2 channel ISDN) or better.  You should also keep in mind that there are several different protocols used for video conferencing and you will only be able to conference with people using the same protocols as yourself.  Overall i am not that knowledgable on this subject but i have played with it a bit on an internal network.

It is actually called Point to Point Video Conferencing.

You need a High speed mdeom, perferrably 56K or v.90 or X2 modem.

You will also need a Video Capture card that will capture the images that your digital camera sees to the modem you are using.

A Sound Card is also needed to enable your to sent and hear conversations between you yourself and your conterpart. A microphone is nneded for you to talk into and a pair of speakers to hear the other person talking.

You will also need programs such as Microsoft NetMeeting, Internet Phone or VDOphone.

The software program will allows you to link up to a specific server on the internet where you can talk to any one connected to the server as you are at the same time.

The main thing is to have some e-mail to tell you counterpart the  time and server to call in and you re on doing Video Conferencing.

Just one more point to add in. Your modem must have the v.80 standard for best performances. Please check you modeom before buying. It is a standard for Video conferencing.

One more thing...are there any monthly fees that I would have to pay to use Microsoft NetMeeting, Internet Phone or VDOphone?
