When I try to run an .avi file I get this pop up error and than winNT 4.0 doesnt let me run the .avi file.

The error says:

"No combination of filters could be found to render the stream."

Its one of those errors that has a yellow exclamation point on a yield sign icon on it, and the header says: ActiveMovie Control

Does anyone know the answer to this?  Please email me if you know it.  Thanks.

Hi.

Most likely you have no appropriate codec for your avi file.
The second possible reason is corrupted file.
Look for properties of your file:
In tab Details you can see the type of video stream : frame size,
bitrate, ... and at last required type of codec.

Alternatively, in tab Preview you can even see your clip or
type of codec if no codec is available.

Tell me what codec you need and I tell you where you can get it.

Actually... I see the file in the preview tab.  All my movies play fine in the preview tab under properties... its just when I double click on an avi icon is when I get my problem.

I've noticed that some avi files play on properties but not in
Active Movie. Usualy they are truncated - not downloaded properly. Do you downloaded it ?
Even if you are sure you downloaded entire file it may be
posted being truncated.

You may need to remove the active movie portion

Click Start, and then click Run.

Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
winnt\system32\unam4ie.exe

      -,LaunchINFSectionEx,quartz.dll,DifferentSection,64,{4112DF42-0DCB-11
         d1-8177-00AA00576BAD}

NOTE: There are no spaces in this command except for 1 space after
unamie4.exe, and you must type this command on one line.

Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.

On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, and then click Add/Remove.

In the Internet Explorer 4.0 Active Setup dialog box, click "Add a component to Internet Explorer", and then follow the instructions on the screen to connect to the Internet Explorer 4.0 Component Download Web page.

Click the DirectShow check box to select it, and then follow the instructions on the screen to finish the installation.

There is also a new Media Player available as well that you may want to try and install.
