Automation error with Excel

I'm using VB5 and Excel 97 under NT 4 & OLE Automation (I'm using VB to populate cells on a worksheet), every thing works OK when the VB environment is running BUT I get Automation Error -214418107 (80010005) when I compile and run the EXE. I have tried putting MsgBox's in to trap where the error happens but it appears to be random.
The manuals don't seam to help and On Error fails to trap this error.
Can anyone help?
TIA
Matt

assuming that your error number is 2147418107 (80010005), check out the MSDN articles Q.186063 and Q.176399.

let me know if this helps,
