Teach Yourself C in 21 Days

by Peter Aitken and Bradley Jones

Published by SAMS

ISBN 0-672-30448-1

This is a very good book to use if you are starting out.  Each of the 21 days has its own lesson, and exercises to go with it.  It starts from ground zero, and by the last few lessons in the book, relatively advanced topics are covered.

There are equivalents book for C++ (Teach Yourself C++ in 21 days, Teach Yourself Visual C++ in 21 days), but I would suggest starting out with C.

I bought the Visual C++ Starter Kit from SAMS.  It includes the book "Essential Visual C++", and version 4.0 of the Visual C++ compiler.
