digital camera

Building web pages to display costume jewelry. Large images will be approximately 200 X 200 pixel jpegs compressed to 20 KB and thumbnails 100 X 100 gifs of about 1.5 KB. Jewelry is as small as 1 inch square with most of the images about 2 inches X 3 inch rectangles. Need to process 1,000 images. Will use photoshop 5.0 to edit.

Looking at the Canon A5 which has macro capaabilities to 2.4 X 3.2 inches. Is this good enough or should I buy a digital camera with a zoom equipped lens and if so which one would you suggest.

I have a Canon A5 and I would heartily recommend it. I got it for capturing 3D textures and I find it ideal for this task. It can capture up to 260 images in low res mode and 100 in 512*384 low compression mode. And the supplied rechargable battery will probably last that long as well!

Did you buy one in the end? If so, do you find it as good as I find mine?
