I was instructed by a support technician at Diamond Products to issue some commands to the modem using Hyperterminal. (HYPERTRM.EXE is what I used.) Unfortunately, I cannot seem to do this. The program keeps asking me for a phone number etc. and won't let me just type in some commands. How does one do this?

here's what you need to do.  when you open hyperterminal, you get a wizard, give it a name and a fake phone #, make sure it shows your modem.  then it will ask you to dial, hit cancel.  you now have access to the modem to try the commands.  if you click file, go to properties, hit the settings tab, click the ascii setup button, you can choose to echo typed characters locally.  this will allow you to see what you type in.  then you can type whatever commands like ati3 or whatever that diamond wants you to do
