I am using a distribution called Mandrake which combined of RedHat and KDE. Whenever I start X windows with startx, it fires up KDE. I want to start RH X windows instead KDE. Can any body help me setup X in such a way that I can start X window with startx and then start kde on demand? Also how do I start KDE saparately? What file i have to edit and how? Thanx in advance.

Each user should have a .xinitrc in their home directory. If you are using KDE, it usually contains a "startkde", or in fact, the lines that startkde (in the KDE bin directory) contains. If you download or have another Windows Manager, you should change the .xinitrc to the Windows Manager necesary commands. Look at the Windows Manager documentation to know how to activate then.
