file compression

I need to be able to compress a file with code so a person can copy it to a floppy disk and then  put the disk in another computer and uncompress it. I am using VB4-16-bit.
How can I go about doing this?
Code please or point me in the right direction.

Use the SHELL command to run PKZIP/UNZIP or get the PKZIP API.
