First thing is try booting with no programs in the startup and don't autostart any non-necessary services. Close any programs you have open before hand and re-try installing.

Is this the Server or Client component? What version? 11.5, 11.9, etc?

you must install sevice pack 3 for Windows NT WorkStation and verify the platform architecture (Alpha, RISC)
