Can you propose a novel idea for my project work

in a lab connected by a LAN .
no internet connection.
Using the UNIX environment
Programming preferrably in Java

it depends on your areas of interest..

you can develop a better web server, or build an interface to the lab's coffe maker to tell if it's done, or if it needs attention.. or you can try to monitor and control  conditions in the room with temperature sensors, or you could do almost anything..

how about this one.. develop an interface from the unix system to read data other workstations, and send it via wireless network to a machine that reformats the lab data for viewing on a television monitor through your local cable tv station..

or you can setup the machine like a burgler alarm to monitor the security of the lab, the other machines on the lan, and all the other events that are going on around it..


the sky is the limit
