What does the error message "cannot load offline changes" mean when starting outlook97?  I am able to continue but have no idea what the message means.

The exchange or outlook client will typically perform changes on the mail server, setting up out-of-office messages and the like.  When you make changes but are not connected to the network, it calls this off-line changes.  What the error message is telling you is that whatever changes that were made in the outlook/exchange configuration when not conected, can't be loaded.
