Login to Netware server using IP only - NO IPX
Can someone walk me through the necessary steps to setting up NT Workstations to log in to Novell servers using IP only? I'd rather not use both IPX and IP.
IP is already configured on the server. Do I have to configure a NetwareIP server?
Thanks!

Symptom
Situation 1: When booting the server (and NOT when doing a UNISTOP then UNISTART), the
following error msgs appear on the Product Kernel screen:
Situation 2: NWIP has just been installed (or is being installed), and when loading NWIP.NLM,
starting the NWIP server, the following error messages appear:
NWIP - Unable to communicate with any of the known DSSes.
NWIP - Trying to use locally saved parameters from prior operation with DSS <ip address>
Could not contact any DSS. Using local copy of NetWare/IP parameters.
NWIP: Using <ip address> as the local IP address for Netware/IP
NetWare/IP Server is initialized and functional.
Cause
During NWIP installation, the following line is added to AUTOEXEC.NCF:
load nwip name=nwip_1
This will load NWIP.NLM, which autoloads PKERNEL.NLM, and will attempt to contact a DSS,
as per the NWIP configuration. The problem is that if NWIP looks for DSS information on the
local server (if NWIP and DSS are running on the same server), DSS will not be loaded yet. It will
get loaded later, when the AUTOEXEC.NCF gets to the UNISTART.NCF file. If NWIP has a
secondary entry for "preferred DSSes" that refers to another server, these errors may not occur.
The NWIP installation configures the server this way because the NWIP domain (after the first
installation) should already have an existing DSS server in the NWIP domain.
Solution
Situation 1: Installing NWIP
To avoid these error messages when installing NetWare/IP, don't start the NetWare/IP server
during the installation. Configure NWIP, but don't start the server. Exit NWIPCFG, the NetWare
IP configuration utility, and load UNICON to set up the DSS server.
Situation 2: The NWIP server is its own preferred DSS
1) UNISTOP (verify that all NLMs unloaded successfully. If they did not, unload them manually
until they are all out of memory.
2) remove the following line from AUTOEXEC.NCF:
load nwip name=nwip_1
3) in INETCFG, under Boards, delete NWIP_1
4) REINITIALIZE SYSTEM
5) edit UNISTART.NCF . If the line "load NWIP" is not there, add it right after the line "load
DSS". If it is there, make sure that NWIP loads right after "load DSS".
6) UNISTART
7) load MONITOR, LAN/WAN information, verify that NWIP virtual board shows up
If there is another DSS server available, set that server as one of the Preferred DSSes in
UNICON, Manage Services, NetWare/IP, Configure NetWare/IP Server, Preferred DSSes.
