Deleting mail from Outlook 98

I am using Outlook 98 and when I delete email it disappears from within Outlook but it appears to make no changes to my PST file. My email file is 69 Meg and I tried to delete 1500 messages. I did so and then emptied the deleted items from Outlook and closed it down. However the PST file stayed the same size but the modified date was updated and I can't find any other PST files on my drive. The mail can no longer be found inside of Outlook 98. How can I get my PST file smaller after deleting mail? That was the whole point of me deleting it.

scully12,

Select menu Tools >> Services, then select Personal folder and press the button Properties. Use the button Compact now.

Hope this help,

Steve.
