Best Method to capture audio?

I want to be able to record to hard disk and edit what I record with software.  I want to be able to input with a CD, microphone or DAT.

What is the best method, hardware and software to do this?

Thanks

Tom

what format? if you simply want WAV files, use Sound Recorder that comes with Win95.

To select your input device, double-click your volume control in your icon tray, then click Options > Properties  click recording then Ok. From there, verify that the input device you want to record from has a  check in the box that says "Select" (then close that window).

to record, open Sound Recorder, make sure you have selected the correct input device as outlined above, tehn start the source, and click the record button in Sound recorder. It will creat a WAV file that you can play at your leisure.

For a more advanced sound program, try Cool Edit (Shareware...well worth checking out)

Hope this helps...

dj,

I'm aware of Sound Recorder, but I'm looking for something more advanced.  Where would I find Cool Edit?
