Disabling edit mode on certain fields

In my Notes db, a user can enter info into fields. What I want is when the user edits the document, not all the fields can be editable. The user can only edit some fields but not others.

I tried using the Hide property feature but it just hides the fields. I want to show those fields even though the user can't edit them.

You have a couple of options depending on how you ACL is set up.  Within the options tab of the field property box there is a security dropdown list.  From this list you can choose that only users with editor access or higher can edit the field.  

Another solution is to make the fields computed and have a button or hotspot prompt the user for the values that need to be entered and then that action writes it to the computed field.  You can give access to these actions either through the use of roles or hide formulas.

Another option would be to have two fields, one editable and the other Computed for Display.  You can hide/unhide the specific field based on the user.
