Did you use the win98 drivers for your card?

Audiorack is a fairly old program that ESS bundle with thier cards. Standard Windows multimedia options work better especially when coupled with direct sound.

By mixer, i didn't think the ESS version was all that different from standard windows mixer.

If you need to check, look in control panel/system/mutimedia/and select your sound card. The mixer is in there also. It should be set for ESS. If you have an alternative mixer, you change it here.

There may be a later version of Audiorack and i know you won't find that on ESSTECH.com.

Goodluck

I think i've covered just about everything but i'll leave this question open incase somebody knows of a new audiorack or fix.

I run ES1868 chipssets on some machines at home.  No problems there with Win98.  Maybe you should drop Audrack because it really sucks. hehe

Well,  other than that,  get the newest drivers available for Win98 and with that a newer AudioRack.  Keep in mind that the original AudioRack is not much better than the old Windows 3.11 version.

Hope this helps.
Bye bye
