I have a PC. My buddy has a Mac. I want to send him mp3 files. What is the best Mac program to play mp3's? Is there a Mac program that can convert his sound files to mp3's that I can play on my PC? Thanks.

mp3s are universal and platform independent.  anything you send him, he can use.  the two big names in mp3 players for the macintosh are:

SoundApp
http://www-cs-students.stanford.edu/~franke/SoundApp/

and MacAmp
http://www.mp3.com/software/mac/players.html

both are freeware and easy to use.  personally i prefer soundapp because it is a more stable, finished product and has yet to crash on me (unlike macamp).

as far as creating an mp3 on the macintosh, you need a good ripper.  i recomend:

MPecker Encoder
http://www.cbd.net/kdegraaf/mp3.html

if he’s unfamiliar with creating an mp3, make sure your friend reads the docs and/or help provided with MPecker Encoder.  you must first make a “snd” file (or other similar recording) and then use MPecker to encode it to the mp3 format.

if you have any further questions, post them and i’ll try to clear things up.
