Setting Environment Variables?

How do I set environment variables from VB?
e.g. append to the path variable and set the variable 'HOME_DIR' to c:\appsdir\cliserve.

Edit the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\currentcontrolset\session manager\environment
