The easiest way is to copy the text file and paste it in.

chwymon, I think _nin_ want it to be inserted automatically, without having to open it in Notepad etc.

_nin_, Is the file at the users hard disk or at the server?

i want links that when they are clicked by someone visiting the webpage, they automatically change the text in the textbox to the text in text files that i uploaded onto the server

would it be easier to put text in the html, instead of using individual text files?

i'll have a lot of text, so if i put it all in the html, it'll be a really big file

Is it ok if the page is reloaded?
Otherwise, as you say, the file will be really big.

the page can be reloaded, but i would like for it to reload it as little as possible, because its on tripod and tripod has those popup windows that load every time you reload the page

my webpage displays tablature and lyrics, how my page is now i have links to the text files, so when the links are clicked, the text files are loaded as a webpage, i want to change it so that everything is on the same page, by displaying the text files in a textbox instead of on a different page

i would use frames to do it, but when a page is loaded, tripod loads a popup window

You should reject my answer so others can answer.  You might post this in the JavaScript section.  It is probably possible with a onClick event handler.
