Open your EXE in your resource editor

Edit the first icon

Relink with new RC (e.g. rebuild)

Explorer cache's icon, which is probably why it doesn't pick up the new one straight away

The icon with the lowest numbered ID value is displayed as the application icon.  The solution I used was to create a new icon with an ID value lower than any other icon in the resource file.

Try this:

In your project, delete all icons
Insert new icon,
With this, the new icon will have the lowest ID and it will automatically become an application icon
I've had a similar problem, and this one worked
