video processing

any clues as to video input into Mac re storring it in a Buffer, to then allow "sampling" from it, and processing image
I am in effect trying to make a video granular synthesis application.

The Quicktime Components Manager is the key.  I used it about a year ago to write a program to capture video from an old Video Spigot card.  It would be simple to capture video data directly to memory (Offscreen GWorld) where you would be free to do whatever you want with the data.

There is sort of a generic API in the QuickTime Components that will let you identify the video device, open it, and do things with it, such as copy video data to whatever.
